Fairy Iris

You will find these everywhere in the San Diego Area. We have a rather glorious bush of them growing next to the house, and I've always wanted to paint them. So I did.

Dietes grandiflora (large wild iris, fairy iris) is actually native to South Africa, and in some parts of Australia is considered a weed. A horribly beautiful weed.

I often fall back to the technical constraints of my airbrush days, roping in the freedom of the water on the paper, bending it to my will in more of a technical illustrative style, losing a lot of expressive freedom in the process. Sometimes I hit somewhere in between, which is where I think Fairy Iris landed.
